What to Expect With Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures of any kind in the world. For most, the results are excellent, and the process is straightforward. However, for those that have never had an anti-wrinkle injection, they may be apprehensive about the process and what exactly to expect.
Preparation is very straightforward. You will not have to do much more than come to the office. Once here, your skin will be cleaned and numbing agent or, simply, ice can be used to numb the injection site. These injections are virtually painless with only a slight sting when the needle is inserted and lasting for only a few seconds.
Choosing the Right Breast Implant
Only you can decide the shape and size of breast implants that makes you feel most comfortable. Some women like a larger, fuller look, while others want to keep their breasts looking more natural and subdued. Choosing the right breast implant may also depend on your age, shape, size and whether you have current implants to be exchanged.
Important Information About the Allergan BIOCELL Breast Implant Recall
In mid-2019 certain BIOCELL textured breast implants and tissue expanders from Allergan were recalled following research showing a potential increased risk of a certain type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is a cancer that affects the lymphatic or immune system.
At issue were reports showing women with these implants having a six times higher risk of anaplastic large cell lymphoma, BIA-ALCL, than women with similar textured implants made by other manufacturers. Earlier this year, the FDA and Allergan have worked together in trying to reach the many women with BIOCELL textured breast implants who may not know about these risks.
How to Detect and Treat Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the abnormal growth of skin cells due to damaged DNA. The most common cause of skin cancer is Ultraviolet or UV radiation – typically as a result of prolonged, unprotected exposure to the sun or tanning beds.
Skin cancer represents, by far, the most common form of cancer in the United States. Over 3 million people are diagnosed with nonmelanoma skin cancer every year. More than 70,000 people were diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, in 2013.
Choosing between a Tummy Tuck and Liposuction
Achieving a flatter or better contoured abdomen is something we have many patients express concerns about. A question we hear often is “Do I need liposuction or a tummy tuck?” While we would say first no one needs either procedure, they are both purely aesthetic and elective treatments, the answer is it depends on your goals and expectations. Ultimately, both procedures aim to remove excess fat on the abdomen and improve the contour of your body, but the greatest difference is how they factor in excess skin. At KDS Aesthetics, we typically ask a few important questions to help patients narrow down which procedure will best suit their desires for a flatter tummy.
Dr. Szymanski Answers Frequently Asked Questions On Botox
Botox is an injected medication that is cosmetically used to treat unwanted lines on the face. Botox Cosmetic is the brand name for clostridium botulinum A toxin made by the pharmaceutical company Allergan. There are actually several brands and makers of botulinum A toxins for cosmetic use, so, going forward, I will use the term “B-tox” to refer to all the various clostridium botulinum A toxins available for use in the US. Each formula is slightly different, but generally, B-tox injections stop the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, from nerves. Without the release of acetylcholine, one’s muscle does not contract. Carefully limiting the contractions of specific muscles in the face can help decrease the motions that cause and reinforce fine lines and wrinkles. Some patients also find B-tox injections can help tweak their look by shifting the position of their eyebrows, altering the relaxed state of their mouth, or preventing the chin from dimpling.

Protecting Your Skin From The Harsh Sun Of Summer
May is skin cancer and melanoma detection and prevention month. If you aren’t already seeing a dermatologist for regular skin checks, we recommend you start. They can guide you best on what to watch and when to take action. As a plastic surgeon, I encourage all patients to increase the focus on their skin health everyday, not only for aesthetic benefits but for their health as well. Skin health and sun protection go hand in hand. Outside of cosmetic procedures, we also often see patients for skin cancer removal and for wound closure after Mohs Surgery with a specialized dermatologist.
